A group of business and community leaders in Holland, Mich., created the Holland/Zeeland Promise in 2010 to help high school students who had "high financial need, proven academic success, and motivation to achieve a college or technical degree," per the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area.
The group's director of scholarships tells MLive.com the scholarship covers the costs of tuition, books, and housingafter any other grants and scholarships have been applied.
"We are committed to making education accessible and proud to play a role in helping hardworking students access opportunities for success," she says.
The 2024 cohort of 15 students has been chosen, and they'll each receive a $25,000 scholarship to cover tuition at Michigan State, Wayne State, Grand Valley State, or the University of Michigan, reports the Holland Sentinel.
"Not only am I able to pursue my dream of going to college, but I will also be able to help others just like my community helped me," says one of the students.
